Documentation matters to us, as we know from own experience that the difference between a hard-to-use software and the perfect solution to one of your problems is often a properly written user guide or simply an annotated example. Moreover, the centerpiece of the Earth System Data Lab, the data sets, are described in detail in a dedicated section. The open source approach of the ESDL fosters the involvement of users and allows for the ingestion of additional data sets. The only thing needed to add a new data set is to write a short piece of software, the so-called data providers, to read and interpret the input data set.
